BOO!
It’s time once again for the best/worst night of the year– another night for the amateurs and the interlopers but one also for the rockers and freaks. Somehow this year we don’t have the cavalcade of cool we normally get overloaded with, but there are still some good options…
TONIGHT (FRIDAY);
Two shows with bands tonight:
- If you’re Manhattan-bound, try visiting Arlene’s Grocery for the Halloween Hop, a night of mostly psychobilly bands and garage trashers The Othermen, a band pretty much made for the occasion! Also including a DJ from Midnite Monster Hop till the late late. $?
- If you’re in Brooklyn, hit up Don Pedro for the King Pizza Halloween bash featuring (duh) the Mad Doctors (another made-for-Halloween groop) and the return of Connecticut’s the Gabba Ghouls (highly recommended!) plus two separate tape releasing bands– St James & the Apostles and the Greasy Hearts plus more! $5
On the DJ front, we’ve got a lot of DJ-switching going on. It’s enough to make your head spin right off your shoulders!
- Groovy DJ La La Linda does her thing at a night called Night of the Living End at the West End Lounge on (duh) West End Avenue. She’s got her usual VJ sidekick who will get extra spooky tonight accompanying the garage, punk and funk sounds! FREE
- Passenger Bar on the South Side of Williamsburg has DJ/VJ B.A. Miale and Go-Go Extraordinaire Anna Copa Cabanna plus a haunted photo booth! They suggest you RSVP to get in (it is free) — that oughtta keep some of the boring class out!
- Finger Lickin’ Friday is rocking tonight with FIVE DJs for a tribute to the Cramps: Phast Phreddie the Boogaloo Omnibus, Bama Lama Mike Sansone, a mysterious lady named Becca plus party hosts Charles Gaskins and Drew Redmond. Plus the spooky gyrations of Brooklyn Babydoll and projections of horror master Billy Burgess! All this for FREE at the Grand Victory, 11 ’til the zombies come
- BUT WAIT you say– isn’t blonde love troll Drew Redmond DJing Home Sweet Home tonight? You’re right! He’s in two places tonight, skitting across town on his soiled broom. He’s one of the many fill-in DJs for Jonathan Toubin’s Haunted Hop late into the night tonight, joining a talented cast including Mike Mortician, Mike Decay, Josh Styles and Todd-o-Phonic Todd. $5 cover to keep out (some of) the Sexy Ebola Nurses.
SATURDAY:
Tonight has the distinction of being both the night we ‘fall back’ an hour (thus gaining an extra 60 minutes to sleep, party or puke) AND the night before the New York Marathon. Plus it’s the night after Halloween! So either you’re taking it easy or you’re taking it hard tonight!
One big show tonight in Manhattan: Stupidity from Sweden headline a garage rock bill at the Delancey with Palmyra Delran, the Above and the instro-mental-ists the GTVs from Philadelphia. $?
Otherwise, the action is all about Havemeyer Street in Brooklyn.
Jumpy hosts his regular Flip City! garage rock DJ night with guest Connie T. Empress at Banter from 10 til late. FREE
Mr Vacation does his Sabado Gigante thing with a ton of danceable funk, garage, psych, Brazilian and hip hop records at the Commodore. 11 til close. FREE
